The Worcestershire Constabulary was inaugurated in December 1839 which consisted of a Chief Constable, Mr Harris a transferee from the Metropolitan Police and a force of 10 Sergeants and 30 Constables, the force remained in existence taking in several Borough Police forces through history until the 1st October 1967 when the West Mercia Constabulary was formed. By this time the Worcestershire Constabulary strength had grown to 701 men. In 1931 the first motor patrol section was formed which consisted of 2 Sergeants and 8 Constables.
The West Mercia force consists of the old County Police forces of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire together with the Worcestershire City Police force.
